An opportunity has arisen to join the diverse and multi skilled Business Support team in Barnsley Council.



You will need to hold a level 2 qualification, have a business support background with experience in dealing with a large number of telephone and email enquiries.

You will be flexible in your approach in order to ensure the overall service objectives are achieved, be an excellent team player and willing to make a solid contribution to the smooth running of the service.

Post 1 – 50093543 (Permanent 18.5 hours per week – Wednesday PM, Thursday and Friday)


Initially the successful applicant will provide support to the Children’s Social Care ‘Front Door’ Service based at Worsbrough Health Centre; the role will include dealing with calls and email correspondence from members of the public, Police, Health and Education professionals. This is a very demanding role and the successful applicant will require the ability to multi task and act quickly and accurately and have a level of resilience to be able to deal with sensitive information. An excellent telephone manner is essential as is the ability to keep calm under immense pressure. The role also involves taking notes at Statutory meetings and recording outcomes.


Post 2 – 50093544 (Temporary 40 weeks covering for maternity leave)


Initially the successful applicant will provide support to Children’s Social Care based at Cudworth Health Centre, Worsbrough Health Centre and Gateway Plaza. The role will include dealing with calls and email correspondence from members of the public, Police, Health and Education professionals. This is a very demanding role and the successful applicant will require the ability to multi task and act quickly and accurately. An excellent telephone manner is essential as is the ability to keep calm under immense pressure. The role also involves taking notes at Statutory meetings and recording outcomes.



Post 3 - 50094388 (Permanent 18.5 hours (over 2.5 days)

Post 4 - 50093588 (Permanent 21 hours (Wednesday PM,Thursday and Friday)



Both Business Support Officer roles are in the Town Centre Team and will initially be based at Gateway Plaza; although due to the nature of the roles there will be requirements to work across other teams within Business Support. The roles will provide excellent development opportunities, developing skills and knowledge in a variety of areas with the wider Children’s Social Care service, by providing support across several teams.
