This is an exciting opportunity to join our small team of Democratic and Scrutiny Officers, providing an essential high-profile service to Chesterfield Borough Council and its residents.
In this role you will be at the heart of the Council’s decision making processes.
As well as providing dedicated support to the Council’s Committees and Overview and Scrutiny function, you will also act as an advisor to elected members and officers on all aspects of the procedural and administrative tasks involved in the Council’s decision making processes, constitution and conduct of meetings.
You will have the opportunity to work with other local authorities and outside bodies as our Democratic and Scrutiny section administers joint working arrangements with neighbouring authorities and strategic boards.
Through your support of the scrutiny function, you will be required to project manage the delivery of in depth scrutiny reviews, working closely with elected members to scope and work plan the review, undertake research and analysis, and prepare and deliver reports and presentations.
Due to the contact with senior leadership, elected members and the public, this is a politically restricted role which requires excellent communication skills and political awareness as well as the ability to contribute effectively in a team environment.
As part of the Policy and Communications team, we also undertake cross-team working on key projects throughout the year which will develop new skills and enhance your experience by contributing to community engagement, local democracy and civic activities.
