Salary: Up to £21K DOE plus uncapped performance related pay

Our client are a fast growing, award winning FMCG business.

The role:

Reporting into the Buying Director, you will be responsible for sourcing and negotiating the best deals on the best lines for your category. Using your industry knowledge and relationship management skills, you will become the buyer of choice for your suppliers and will be able to recognise what makes a good deal in established, repeated lines right through to emerging categories and new products.
You will be at ease networking, representing the business at UK and international trade fairs and proactively seeking new business opportunities through supplier visits and regular contact. You will use market research and historical trends when analysing offers, to clearly and convincingly present your case as to whether you believe a deal to be viable, worthwhile and interesting.
By joining this growing team, you will also assist in developing and shaping the Buying Assistants who will be working alongside you to service and further develop the category.
Following an in depth induction where you will spend time with all areas of the business, you will be working with the rest of the Buying team in getting to know the systems, customers and suppliers, products and industry as part of your on the job training. This may also include store visits and attending meetings, getting to meet the suppliers you will be speaking with on a regular basis.
You will be a confident and articulate communicator, with the ability to persuade and negotiate even the most tenacious of suppliers and colleagues. Understanding that purchases remain a buying responsibility until sold, you will seek feedback from the wider trading team and think creatively to make suggestions to see the lines sell successfully. Your analytical skills, numerical abilities and organised approach will mean that you will flourish in a dynamic environment where decisions are made quickly and we respond accordingly.

The successful candidate:

You need to be sharp, smart with an eagerness to learn and adapt. If you have an interest in trading and a passion for product - we would love to hear from you.
You will be versatile and be able to demonstrate how you have thrived whilst working in a fast paced, office environment. Any experience working with cosmetics, fragrance and toiletries is advantageous, but we are open to applications from candidates with other recent FMCG buying or sales experience.
You must be able to operate strategically and think analytically, as each deal you make will be underpinned by a combination of commercial understanding and customer requirement. You will see the importance of attention to detail, yet awareness for the bigger picture and always thinking of the next opportunity and how to take the category further.
We're keen to hear from people who have language skills or experience of living and working overseas but these are not essential.
