Role: Director of Product Development
Salary/Package: Up to £70K base salary depending on experience, 12% of annual salary car allowance and performance related bonus with potential of an additional £12K earnings based on set objectives
Location: Sheffield based with international travel

The role of Director of Product Development will need to focus wide and act as a funnel to capture feedback and comment from all our markets which should filter into the development of our product roadmap. Keeping a close eye on technology developments and futures as well as other factors impacting (positive or negative) on our lone worker market should also be your goal. You must be responsible for delivery of product but equally hold a vision for product roadmap that is 3 years out.
Your team will be responsible for three additional broad areas of support, you will be responsible for growing this team as required and ensuring its exceptional performance:
Product Management – the interface between our ‘providers’ and our sales & marketing resources
2nd line Technical Support – supporting 1st line customer services teams and BDMs in all our markets
Product testing and accreditations – Before and during product life cycles
You will inspire innovation and provoke change in both the digital customer experience and supporting technology. Your focus will not only be about what we’re building, it will also encompass how we’re building it. You will need to share your ideas with people at all levels of the organization and bring them along on the journey. Additionally, you will:
Jointly chair regular Roadmap Strategy Group meetings and lead on requirements gathering and market feedback.
‘Own’ your departments use of Aha! (new product development tool)
Seek out and deliver continuous improvements to testing and support best practices
Work with our production and operations teams to introduce new products to manufacture or customer delivery.
Proactively engage with UK and US sales & marketing leaders and make them aware of new product introduction plans and target dates, work with them to ‘customer-ise’ key messages and USPs
Help identify value add features that differentiate us in the marketplace and add real value to customers, supporting low customer attrition
Ensure that solutions delivered are compliant with country specific data protection regulations (inc but not exclusively GDPR / HIPPA)
Working with Head of IT and our Data Protection Officer, determine when and how Privacy Impact Assessments should be carried out in respect of systems development & integrate our security & privacy policies into final solutions to ensure compliance, balanced with delivering an exceptional user experience
Identify opportunities for patent or design registration protection
The successful candidate:
Degree level education in an appropriately relevant field
Experienced in product management and/or large scale technology developments
Proven ability to handle multiple, complex technical projects and have the flexibility to work in a very dynamic environment.
Excellent leadership, people management, communication and documentation skills. Should be comfortable presenting to other managers, architects, stake holders, and customers as needed.
Ideally, a minimum of 5 years’ experience with wide range of backend and front end technologies, along with cellular enabled hardware, and their impact on user experience
Collaborate effectively with other development groups and architects inside/outside the existing organisation to solve complex problems spanning their respective areas
Must have strong analytical, diagnostic & problem-solving skills with ability to work independently & with teams
Excellent presentation, interaction and communication skills along with the ability to collaborate effectively across functional organizations.
Appreciation for good design and an eye for perfection
Experience with agile software development teams and have worked with geographically dispersed development teams/efforts, and sales teams
Highly technical, detail oriented with a focus on implementation excellence as well as significant project management expertise
A strong self-directed work ethic, driven to produce a quality product and user experience, wrapped up in a make it happen mindset
Direct experience of data privacy compliance in both the U.S., U.K. and Europe is desirable
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Clean driving license & ability to fly essential due to company’s international footprint.
